Siliguri is the travel hub. The famous tourist destinations of Darjeeling, Sikkim and Dooars are within a few hours drive from Siliguri. The importance of the town stems from its unique location at the centre. Siliguri as a transport centre has the most important rail station, airport and bus terminus for the region.

The Region
The Sikkim – Darjeeling – Dooars region is the hinterland for tourism in Siliguri.

Darjeeling is arguably the most famous tourist destination in the entire north east. The Darjeeling region includes the Darjeeling town, Kurseong, Mirik, Kalimpong, Lava – Loleygaon and also a number of lesser known offbeat destinations. more

Sikkim has come up in the recent past as a major tourist destination in the country. The beautiful terrain coupled with peaceful nature of the local people has been a boon for tourism. Today tourism has become the main stay of the Sikkemese economy. New destination are coming up, new infrastructure is being build up. The most important tourist destinations in Sikkim include Gangtok, Pelling, Ravangla, Tsongo Lake and North Sikkim. Dooars is a new destination for tourists. This is the foothills of the Himalaya stretching between Tista and Sankosh rivers. The Dooars is famous for its tea gardens, undulating terrain, great forests and wild life and rich cultural heritage. The common destinations in Dooars include Gorumara National Park, Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve and others. Tourism infrastructure in Dooars is still basic but improving fast.

Transport
The town has three major rail stations including NJP railhead, the Siliguri Junction and the Siliguri Town Station. All trains connecting north east of the India to the rest of the country have to pass through these stations. more on rail stations

The Bagdogra airport at a distance of about 11 kilometer from the city centre is the only airport for the Sikkim – Darjeeling area. The airport connects with Calcutta, Guwahati and Delhi. There are regular helicopter flights to Gangtok from this airport.

Siliguri has several bus stands. The most important being the Tenzing Norgey Bus terminus. Besides there is also PC Mittal Bus terminus, SNT bus terminus, local bus stand at Court more and a bus stand at Airview more. more on road transport.

Hotels
Siliguri has a large number of hotels mostly catering to business and leisure travelers. The hill cart road is where most of the hotels are concentrated. There are several hotels around the Sevoke road area as well. Some of the hotels are of international standards including Hotel Cindrella and Hotel Sinclairs. Some five star category hotels are also in the offing. more

Being the starting point for tourists visiting the Darjeeling Sikkim region, Siliguri has a large number of tour operators and travel agencies based in the town. The largest body of tour operators is Eastern Himalaya Travel and Tour Operators Association. The association has about 50 members in the Siliguri town. more
