Cinema Halls in Siliguri
UrbasiThe city of Siliguri boasts of at least six cinema halls which are not of the best standards compared to other metros, but they are the still the best in North Bengal. Among the best in Siliguri is the Payel cinema hall in 2nd Mile and Urvashi cinema hall near the Siliguri Police Station, apart from the two, Biswadeep Cinema Hall alongside Hill Cart Road, Pradhan Nagar, is joining the league of good cinema halls in the city by introducing a
State-of-the-art Digital Projection System. Occasionally, film festivals, plays, concerts and seminars are also held in the Town Hall which is the only well equipped modern community hall in the city.

Even though Siliguri is yet to come up with a studio for shooting films, – and there are no movie production houses in Siliguri – some independent local and regional producers in the local, tribal and ethnic languages are making films on their own with only the local audience in mind. There is no dearth of artistic talent or beautiful locations in the region and it is important that the state and central government takes up initiative to promote the film industry in this region. If that happens, Siliguri can give Tollywood (Kolkata’s film industry) a run for its money.
