Reserves of lead zinc deposits weighing 3.256 million tonnes with an average content of 8% metal has been found in the Darjeeling district. It is most likely that the Gorubathan area will be exploited for this purpose. The Jalpaiguri District is also rich in many minerals including Dolomite. A few cement factories have come up around Siliguri depending on the minerals available locally as well as imports from neighboring Bhutan.
