The University is known as much for its academic excellence as for its serene natural beauty and the greenery. NBU has one of the largest campuses for any University in India.

It enrolls over 36,000 undergraduates and 1500 graduates at different courses under its affiliation every year. It occupies a huge area of 330 acres and has many learning centres, departments, offices and quarters. It has 23 post graduate departments, 18 centres and 19 administrative departments.

It has 79 colleges under its wing including the six districts of Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Malda and the state of Sikkim.
